Great Alaska Talent Competition Preliminaries

It's time to showcase your talents for the chance to compete on stage at the closing Rondy 2020 event, the Great Alaska Talent Competition!

All preliminaries will be held on the second floor of the Hard Rock Cafe, 415 E St.

You will be signing up for a two-hour slot during the following times:

  • Saturday, February 29th: 11am-1pm
  • Saturday, February 29th: 2pm-4pm
  • Sunday, March 1st: 3pm-5pm

Slots are limited to 25 acts; after that, performers will have to select a different slot.

Each act will select a division, as follows:

Division 1 - Ages 6-12
Division 2 - Ages 13-18
Division 3 - Adult Ages 19 and Up
Division 4 - Groups (2 or more per act)

The finals of the Great Alaska Talent Competition will be awarding the following prizes to the top competitors:

Grand Prize Winner: $500
Each Division Winner: $100
Big Mitch Top Vocal Award: $250

In addition, the winners of Division 1 and Division 2 will each be eligible to receive a $1,500 scholarship, courtesy of Alaska 529.

Performers will be contacted at least a week prior to the preliminaries to confirm their time slot, receive the full rules, and get the rundown of what to expect.

One Division winner is guaranteed to advance to the finals - and depending on number of entrants, a guarantee of 2 (for example if there are less than 5 registrations in a particular division, only one act will be guaranteed to advance based on score tally. Divisions that have over 15 registrants are guaranteed to have top 2 scores advance).

Preliminary judges will determine the finalist top 12 after the top scoring contestants that will advance to the BIG show on Sunday, March 8 at the Performing Arts Center. ALL final show contestants that advance should know that they will be asked to participate in a full day of rehearsals on March 8 for a full show production.

All contestants will be contacted Sunday night March 1 after the final preliminary group has competed to inform them if they have advanced. ALL registrants are given a comp ticket to the final show to root for and support their fellow contestants and to enjoy the show!

The rules:

Show up to your assigned time.
All acts need to be family friendly: anything lewd or inappropriate will be excused.
All preliminary acts should be limited up to but no longer than 2 minutes. Anything over that time will be given an escort off the stage!
Singing, dancing, instrumental, comedic interpretation - all are welcome!
If you have major instrumental set up or props - it is essential to communicate this to the Director. Please give a brief description of your type of talent, and technical needs. The prelims are not a fully produced show like the final competition.
A full set of rules will be emailed to you by the Director once you have registered - be sure to include your current contact information.

Let’s Rondy and see some incredible Alaskan talent!
