Rondy Pin and Button

The first Rondy pins were created in 1939. Each year, artists compete to design the official pin and local students do the same in a booster button contest. These pins and buttons become collector’s items; some are worth thousands of dollars.

2024 RONDY COLLECTOR PIN DESIGNER
COREY GREEN

If you ask my friends and family what they know about me, they will say, “his name is Cory Green, he was born and raised in Alaska and he expresses himself through his artwork.” They might go on to tell you that I am the oldest of four children and the only boy of those four. Those that are close to me would go on to tell you that I am always there for my friends and family and that I have a deep love for animals.

I can tell you that I have loved drawing since I was old enough to pick up and operate a pencil. When I became old enough to add painting to it, I felt as though I had found the true meaning of love. To draw or paint something is a way of sharing the beauty of life with others.

Fur Rondy has been a part of mine and my family’s lives since 1980. My grandfather and his friends, as Mt. View Lions, helped transport and set up bleachers for the parade and dog races. My grandmother and her friends, as Mt. View Lion’s Auxiliary members, sold Fur Rondy pins as a fund raiser. In later years, my grandmother, aunts, uncles and cousins worked or volunteered for Fur Rondy in their shop and at their events. As I was working on my design, Circle of Life, I hoped to express my love of nature, animals, Alaskan life and Fur Rondy. Because that is what Fur Rondy is all about. It’s getting outside and experiencing everything that Alaska has to offer while bringing everyone together to join in this celebration of the Circle of Life.

2024 BOOSTER BUTTON DESIGNER
DECLAN TEGGE

I am a 5th grader at Kincaid Elementary School and am energetic, outgoing, and very social. I enjoy school with my favorite subject being Social Studies. I am looking forward to joining middle school next year!

I am very involved in the community and love to compete in sports, draw, and travel (Hawaii is my favorite)! My love for art started at a very young age, even having my own art show at the age of 5!

As the winner of this year’s Fur Rondy Booster Button Contest, I am beyond thrilled! I am looking forward to seeing the design on the buttons and can’t wait for my class to celebrate with me. Thank you for this great honor!
